(WKYT) – Three Kentucky mayors joined others across the country in a push to protect Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.
Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson, Georgetown Mayor Burney Jenkins and Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg signed a letter to Senate leaders along with over 200 other mayors.

The letter asks Senate leaders to reverse “harmful and historic cuts” to SNAP, to fully fund the program and to protect SNAP benefits and eligibility standards.
The mayors also ask Congress to enact legislation to transition Puerto Rico from the Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) to SNAP and to delay administrative and program cost shifts included in H.R. 1, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
According to the letter, more than 4 million people have lost SNAP benefits since H.R. 1 was enacted.
“Food security is foundational to the health, prosperity, and resilience of American cities,” the letter says. “Hunger is not a partisan issue, and efforts to address food insecurity should rise above political divisions.”
