(WKYT) – A 2-year-old Somerset boy is recovering at a Nashville children’s hospital after sustaining third-degree burns in a crockpot incident Thursday evening.
Daelyn Davis was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville after the incident, according to his aunt, Abigail Davis.
What happened
Abigail Davis said her sister was cooking roast in a crockpot that was plugged into an extension cord when Daelyn grabbed it.
“She’s cooked it like that multiple times before,” Abigail Davis said. “I guess my nephew got a hold of it when my sister walked into the other room.”
When the crockpot fell, Daelyn sustained third-degree burns across his body. He was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital Thursday evening.
Road to recovery
As of Saturday evening, Daelyn remains hospitalized. Abigail Davis said medical staff are continuously monitoring him.
“They are constantly running labs on him and just making sure everything is good on the inside,” she said.
Doctors are working to delay skin grafting surgeries until Monday, according to Davis.
Community support
The Davis family has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $1,000 to assist with Daelyn’s recovery. As of the time of this report, the campaign had raised $140.
Abigail Davis said the family has been moved by the response from the community.
“My family is very thankful and grateful for all the support from everyone we’re receiving — all the prayers, just the good vibes and everything sent our way — is really what we are the most thankful for,” she said.
