(WKYT) – Funeral services have been announced for the late mayor of Stanford, who passed away this weekend after a long battle with cancer.
Visitation for Dalton Miller will be on Thursday at the Stuart Underwood Auditorium at Lincoln County High School from 4-8 p.m. A private visitation will be held from 3-4 for Stanford city staff, council members, the 137th Transportation Detachment and 217th Quartermaster Detachment.
A second visitation is scheduled for Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Central Standard Time at Trinity Church in Columbia with funeral services immediately following.
Burial will be at Caldwell Chapel Cemetery in Knifley.
According to this obituary, Miller served in the United States Army for over two decades and retired in 2006.
He continued to serve in the National Guard while working as a social worker.
After retiring again in 2018, the next phase of Miller’s life was dedicated to public service.
“Dalton’s love for his community led him into public service. He served as a Stanford City Councilman before being elected Mayor of Stanford in 2020, a position he faithfully held until his passing,” his obituary says. “Dalton often said that being Mayor was his favorite job he had ever held and that it never felt like work—even on the most challenging days. He loved the people of Stanford and was passionate about making the community a better place for everyone.”
He will be remembered as a gifted leader and manager.
“Known for his exceptional leadership, warm personality, and genuine care for others, Dalton was a natural people person and a gifted manager who brought people together. He consistently put the needs of Stanford and its citizens first, earning the respect, admiration, and affection of those he served,” Miller’s obituary says. “His impact on the city will be felt for generations, and his legacy of service, kindness, and dedication will forever remain a part of the Stanford community.”
