(WKYT) – An Eastern Kentucky man died in a mining accident on Wednesday.
According to the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, 25-year-old Preston Pollard was performing maintenance work in the morning at the Combs Branch Mine in Perry County when the accident took place.
Pollard was a resident of Perry County.
Gov. Andy Beshear was quick to add his condolences.
“I hope all of Kentucky will join Britainy and me as we pray for Preston’s family during this difficult time,” he said. “This accident is a tough reminder of the dangers our miners, both surface and underground, face every day.”
Mining operations at the site are shut down while the accident is being investigated.
