Mercer County defeated Wayne County Varisty Cardinals 10-2 on Friday, thanks in part to seven runs in the first inning.
Mercer County got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Stephens doubled, scoring one run, Doughty grounded out, scoring one run, Worthington singled, scoring one run, Gangon singled, scoring one run, Haven grounded out, scoring two runs, and Devin singled, scoring one run.
Stephens earned the win for Mercer County. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Cooper Stockton took the loss for Wayne County. The righty went four innings, allowing seven runs ( six earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking two.
Nate Criswell, Palmer Smith, Gage Gregory, Dylan Turner, and Caleb Sargent each collect one hit for the Cards. Criswell and Smith each drove one run for the Bat Cards. Wayne County Varsity Cardinals didn’t commit a single error in the field. Connor Hinkle had the most chances in the field with seven.
Mercer County tallied 12 hits in the game. Number eight hitter, Brogli, showed the depth of Mercer County’s lineup by leading them with three hits in three at-bats. Worthington, Stephens, Tyler, Devine, Gangon, Doughtly, Payton, and Havene each drove in one run for Mercer County. Mercer County turned two double plays in the game.
