LIHEAP Spring Subsidy applications set to open April 20, one-time electric assistance available

(WKYT) – The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is opening applications for its Spring Subsidy Cooling Component beginning Monday, April 20.

The LIHEAP Spring Subsidy is meant to help eligible households with income up to 150% of the federal poverty guidelines to offset their cooling costs, according to Community Action Kentucky.

Applications are accepted until May 22, CAK said, and are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The one-time electric benefit is paid directly to the household’s electric vendor, and does not require a disconnect notice, past due bill or eviction notice.

Assistance from previous LIHEAP components also do not impact household eligibility, CAK said.
