Powerful Pitching Performance from Palmer Smith Carries the Cardinals Past Southwestern

Palmer Smith struck out 11 batters as the hurler led Wayne County Varsity Cardinals past Southwestern 7 – 4 on Tuesday. Smith surrendered eight hits and four runs over seven innings while walking none. 

A single by Jayden Taylor put Southwestern on the board at the top of the second. 

Wayne County Varsity Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Southwestern committed an error, Caleb Sargent singled, Riley Jones walked, and Cooper Stockton walked, each scoring one run. 

Wayne County Varsity Cardinals added one run in the third. Gage Gregory grounded into a double play, making the score 5 – 3.

Mick Miller took the loss for Southwestern. The hurler went two innings, surrendering five runs on six hits, striking out five, and walking five. 

Wayne County Varisty Cardinals amassed nine hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Gregory led Wayne County with three hits in four at-bats. Stockton, Jones, and Sargent each drove in one run for the Cardinals. Dylan Turner collected two hits for Wayne County. Landon Denney led the Bat Cards with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game.
