(WKYT) – Kentucky Women’s Basketball makes program history with four Wildcats selected in the WNBA Draft.
Teonni Key was selected with the 22nd pick by the Toronto Tempo. Tonie Morgan was the 32nd overall pick by the Chicago Sky. Amelia Hassett was the 35th pick by the Los Angeles Sparks. Jordan Obi was the 44th pick to the Las Vegas Aces.
This is the first time in program history that four players have been drafted in the same draft.
The previous record was two players drafted in the 2017 draft when Evelyn Akhator was drafted to the Dallas Wings and Makayla Epps was drafted to the Chicago Sky.
Teonni Key found her way to Kentucky after not playing much during her time at North Carolina. As Tar Heel, she only averaged 2,5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. Her time at Kentucky thrusted her into one of the best forwards in the country.
In her two seasons at Kentucky, Key averaged a combined 16.6 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 50% from the field.
Tonie Morgan played one season at Kentucky and made a splash. She led the nation in total assists and second in the country in assist per game. Morgan averaged 13.8 points on 47% from the field and 34% form behind the arc.
Before Kentucky, she played three seasons for Georgia Tech. During her time as a Yellow Jacket, she played 96 games and made 95 starts, combining for 1,261 points, 543 rebounds, 468 assists and 116 steals, along the way becoming a three-time, all-conference team member.
Amelia Hassett holds the program record for most three-pointers made in a single season, totaling 99 threes this season. In her two years at Kentucky, Hassett averaged 9.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and shot 40% from the field and 35% from behind the arc per game. She made a total of 154 threes in her two seasons.
Before her time at Kentucky, Hassett played at Eastern Florida. She played in 67 games and made 65 starts, averaging 13.7 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game, 2.2 assists per game, 2.1 blocks per game and 1.4 steals per game.
She was named to the 2023-24 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-America Third Team.
Jordan Obi spent her graduate transfer season at Kentucky where she averaged nine points and six rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the floor.
Before her time at Kentucky, she spent three seasons at Penn where she averaged 13.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
All four players drafted were key members to the Wildcats making it to the Sweet 16, this season, for the first time in a decade.
