(WKYT) – A former Kentucky lawyer is set to serve five years in prison after a judge revoked his probation.
Chase Cox was convicted of retaliating against a participant in a legal process when he hired a former client to damage his ex-girlfriend’s car after she testified against him.
Court documents show he was also convicted of misdemeanor criminal trespassing and criminal mischief in a separate case.
Cox’s probation was revoked after he tested positive for, and initially denied using, cocaine and alcohol, according to court documents.
In the revocation ruling, Judge Jeffrey L. Schumacher said Cox appeared to be incapable of following court directives for a significant amount of time.
Schumacher pointed to the fact that Cox violated his probation less than three months into a five-year probation term.
“The Defendant’s history, while either out awaiting trial, or while actually on probation, shows a clear inability to conform his behavior within the parameters of the Court’s orders,” the ruling said. “The Defendant has been given more than ample opportunity for success, but he continues to not take any of this seriously.”
Cox’s five-year prison sentence was reinstated with credit for time served, and the sentence is to run consecutive to any other felony offense.
