The Monticello City Council met Monday night for their regular monthly session. During the meeting the Council voted to approve the promotion of Josh Asbury to the position of Police Chief. This will be effective March 18th with the final day for current chief, Joey Hoover coming next Tuesday March 17th. Salary for Asbury was set at $57,500 annually. The Council took action to establish the position of assistant police chief and then approved the appointment of Josh Smith to serve in that capacity. Salary for Smith will see a 5% increase.
Various departmental reports were given the Monticello Fire Department reported a total of 28 runs which included 8 fires & 5 accidents
ABC report which showed there were $293,206 in alcohol sales for the month of January and $14,254 in fees were collected.
The Monticello Utility Commission financials showed revenue totaling $641,977 while expenditures for month totaled $618,846
There was also a discussion on the city’s annual audit reports of which 2024 and 2025 have not been completed, the state has frozen some funding due to the 2024 audit being incomplete.
Baron Hutchinson was appointed to the Parks and Recreation board, & Donald Kennedy to the Code Enforcement Board.
Pride cleanup week for the city will be held April 6th thru the 10th.
