(WKYT) – No. 22 Kentucky claimed the series-win over St. John’s on Saturday by knocking off the Red Storm, 3-0.
The Cats will go for the sweep on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
Connor Mattison relieved UK starter Ben Cleaver, pitching 4.0 scoreless innings, earning the win. Mattison allowed just two hits, struck out five and twice stranded a runner at third base.
Freshman Caeden Cloud, making his first-career start at third, doubled home a run in the seventh, while making a leaping snag of a line-drive in the eighth, resulting in a double-play.
Will Marcy laced a single in the seventh to score Carson Hansen, giving the Cats a 2-0 lead. Cloud’s RBI-double made it 3-0.
