The much talked about winter storm moved through the area over the weekend, and while it didn’t leave as much precipitation as thought what it did leave was impactful.
The system began Saturday around noon with snow showers continuing into the evening a general 2-3 inches fell before freezing rain moved in Saturday night. It appears the heaviest ice accumulation was from central Wayne County northward. Power outages remain plentiful with numerous tree limbs and in some cases trees themselves down on lines. Road conditions that were already rough especially on county roadways became extremely hazardous at sunset Sunday evening with any water on the roadway freezing. County officials along with the Rescue Squad urged the public to stay off roads unless it was a dire emergency. Both Wayne County and state road crews were out long hours clearing roadways from as much snow and ice as possible along with storm debris that made travel even more difficult.
Now comes artic air, the forecast doesn’t have us above freezing at any time over the next seven days. Tonight’s low could go below zero with dangerous windchills.
