A Monticello teen was taken into custody late Wednesday afternoon after reportedly attempting to steal a vehicle on South 2nd Street.
The 17-year-old male fled after being confronted by the property owner. Approximately 45 minutes later, the male was observed by Officer Jacob Thomas near downtown and was taken into custody on Huffaker Street.
Charges include Attempted Auto Theft, Theft of Contents from Vehicle, Criminal Mischief and Possession of a Controlled Substance (meth). He was also charged with Theft of an Auto and Criminal Mischief in connection with a truck stolen from the parking lot of Empire 4 Fitness on North Main Street on January 8th.
He was lodged in the Adair Youth Development Center in Columbia pending further action in Wayne Juvenile Court.
