The Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Kelly Ragan, Fire Chief of the Susie Fire Department, as the 2025 Hometown Hero for this year’s Christmas Parade.Kelly has been a dedicated firefighter since the early 2000s, beginning his training for the Susie Fire Department even before the station was built. As a founding member of the department, he has faithfully served the community since it first became operational in 2002. Kelly quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Assistant Chief in 2004 and taking on the role of Fire Chief in 2009.
With over two decades of service, Kelly has earned numerous certifications, including Kentucky State Certified Firefighter Levels 1 and 2, IFSAC Firefighter Levels 1 and 2, IFSAC Hazmat Awareness, and IFSAC Hazmat Operations Level 1. In 2020, he expanded his service even further by becoming a certified firefighter instructor, training and mentoring the next generation of firefighters.
For Kelly, firefighting is not just a duty—it’s a calling. He leads by example, responding to every call with professionalism and compassion, and offering support to neighboring departments whenever needed. His leadership, integrity, and dedication to protecting others have earned him deep respect throughout Wayne County.
Beyond the firehouse, Kelly is a devoted husband to Rebecca, a proud father to Kayla, Kody, and Kyle, and a loving grandfather to five grandchildren. His strong sense of family and commitment to community make him not only an exceptional leader but also a true hometown hero.
