Candidates Release Letters of intent to file for next year’s Election

Current County Judge Executive, Scott Gehring and local attorney Rhett Ramsey have released letters of intent to run for office in 2026.  Next year’s election will see all county and city offices on the ballot.

MONTICELLO, KY – Rhett Ramsey has filed his intent to run for the office of Wayne County
Attorney in the 2026 election. “After months of prayer and many conversations with my wife,
family, and supporters, I have decided to seek the office of Wayne County Attorney in the May
2026 Republican primary.”
“I moved back home immediately after law school because I love Wayne County and our people.
In my law practice, I have worked as hard as I can to help people who are going through difficult
moments in life. I want to use my work ethic and my love for our community to serve our people.”
Ramsey says drugs are the biggest problem facing our community. “The drug epidemic is the
biggest problem facing our community. Every single family in Wayne County has been affected
by this in some capacity. Most of the crime in our community is related to the drug epidemic:
possession of drugs, trafficking drugs, theft, and even violent crimes – most of it all relates back
to drugs.”
Ramsey also pointed out the emphasis his office will place on keeping Wayne County clean. “We
live in the most beautiful area of the country – from the rolling hills of our county to the beautiful
shores of Lake Cumberland. Those who decide to litter our landscape or illegally dump garbage
will be held accountable. We’re going to keep Wayne County clean.”
“My promise to my fellow Wayne Countians is this: If you elect me to be your county attorney, I
will wake up every day and give my all for Wayne County.”
Rhett is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky College of
Law. Rhett has spent his entire career in Monticello, practicing since 2016. He is married to Charity
Ramsey, a registered nurse at Wayne County Hospital and owner of Main Street Books. They have
one son, Truett Reagan Ramsey. Rhett is a member of First Christian Church, Monticello Masonic
Lodge #431, the Wayne County Historical Society Board of Directors, and serves as Chairman of
the Wayne County Republican Party.

Letter of intent to seek Re-Election for Wayne County Judge Executive
It is with great honor and pride that I announce that I have filed my letter of intent for re-election as your Wayne County Judge Executive.
Over the past 33 months, we’ve made tremendous progress together. We’ve brought new jobs and businesses to our community, increased funding to depts, all while lowering the property taxes for the first time in 16 years. We have secured millions of dollars in grants that benefit vital programs, including the Wayne County Senior Citizens Center.
One of our achievements is securing hazardous duty retirement benefits for our Sheriff’s Department, ensuring those who protect and serve us are supported in their future. These accomplishments are just the beginning with more announcements to come.
Working with the Sheriff’s Dept and Wayne County School’s, we brought back the DARE program for our Kids.
I’m excited about what our future holds and remain committed to building a stronger, safer and more prosperous Wayne County.
