A message from Monticello Police Chief, Joey Hoover:
As we approach the July 4th holiday, I want to wish everyone a safe and joyful Independence Day celebration. This is a time for our community to come together in appreciation of our freedoms, family, and traditions.
I respectfully remind all residents that on April 12, 2021, Monticello City Ordinance #840 regulating the use of fireworks in the city limits was enacted by majority vote of the Monticello City Council limiting the use of fireworks during the holiday period. These regulations are in place to help ensure public safety, reduce fire hazards, prevent disturbances to neighbors and pets, and support our veterans who may be affected by loud explosions.
For the upcoming July 4th holiday period, Section II Paragraph A applies: “Fireworks may be used in the city limits of Monticello July 2nd through July 8th between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
Anyone setting off fireworks anytime other than during the dates/times outlined above is subject to be cited to appear in Wayne District Court for violation of the city ordinance.
Our officers will be actively monitoring complaints and enforcing violations as needed, with the primary goal of keeping everyone safe.
