The public is invited to virtual town hall meetings during the month of June hosted by Citizen Foster Care Review Boards to discuss ways to improve outcomes for Kentucky families and children in the foster care system. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend one of the regional meetings. The session for Wayne, Clinton, Pulaski, Russell, & McCreary counties is scheduled for June 10th at 1:00 Eastern Time. The town halls will primarily focus on normalcy for Kentucky’s children in foster care regarding extracurricular and social activities. Discussion points will include:
What age-appropriate extracurricular activities are accessible to children and youth in out-of-home care?
Are foster children across the state able to participate in normal activities?
Are children in private childcare foster homes and residential placements receiving equal opportunities for normal activities as those in other types of placements?
What barriers exist that prevent foster youth from engaging in normal activities?
What solutions can be identified to overcome these barriers and ensure equal access to these vital experiences for all foster youth?
Findings from the meetings will be reported to the Kentucky Citizen Foster Care Review Board and included in the CFCRB’s annual recommendations to the Supreme Court, governor and legislature. Regional meetings are among the reforms called for in House Bill 1, adoption and foster care legislation passed in 2018 to improve outcomes for children in out-of-home care.
