Public Hearing on Proposed Tax Increase to be held Today

Monticello Mayor, Kenny Catron has scheduled a public hearing to be held at 5:30 today at City Hall in the council chambers on a proposed 4 percent increase in city property taxes.
A hearing is required by state law due to the proposed tax rate amounts to a 4 percent increase
Councilors are considering an ordinance that will raise taxes for calendar year 2024 with the money to go into the General Fund.
If approved a tax rate of 13.8 cents per $100 of assessed value would be levied upon all taxable real property located in the city of Monticello. The tax rate for real property in the city of Monticello is currently 11.8 cents per $100 of assessed value.
The City Council will hold their first September meeting following the public hearing.
