The Wayne County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, September 17. During the meeting, the board approved the working budget for 2026-2027, which includes the latest revenue projections, up to date salary information for all employees, and a 3.5% general fund contingency.
In other business, the board:
- Heard an update from Leslye Rice, Principal of Bell Elementary, on initiatives and programming at the school.
- Recognized the following students for participating in the Rogers Explorers program: Cora Alley, Maddyn Brake, Cloie Dunagan, Madden Hesse, Reagan Jones, Serenity Parmley, and Aiden Vaughn.
- Recognized Tonya Marcum, visual art teacher at Walker and Bell, as the Wayne County Education Association Teacher of the Month.
- Approved pay request #7 for the Walker Early Learning Center renovation project in the amount of $2,448,453.95.
- Approved a memorandum of agreement with Gear Up for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Approved paying the following invoices to DECO Architects:
- $15,421.63 for professional services related to the District Facility Plan
- $9,232.44 for professional services related to the Walker renovation project.
- $21, 369.60 for professional services related to the Gym and Football Field ADA renovation project.
- $3,967.50 for professional services related to the Bell Elementary office and restroom renovation.
