. (WKYT) – Woodford County became the first in Kentucky to permanently ban data center construction.
The Woodford County Fiscal Court unanimously approved the ordinance on Tuesday, Sept. 8, which was worked on alongside the Versailles and Midway City Councils, according to Judge-Executive James Kay.

Kay said the action showed a clear commitment to protecting farmland, honoring farming families and safeguarding the “quiet character of our countryside.”
“This isn’t about closing doors. It’s about holding the line for the community we treasure. Woodford County’s future is rooted in our land and water,” Kay said. “Our future is farming. Tonight, we proudly stood together to protect our community for generations to come.”
City Attorney Alan George extended his compliments to the Fiscal Court on its action, saying other areas are trying to figure out how to address data center development.
“And this court has already taken action,” George said.
