Lexington Fire Department holds 9/11 memorial stair climb

(WKYT) – The Lexington Fire Department continued a tradition to honor those who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks on Thursday.

The department’s annual memorial stair climb at Kroger Field invited community members to climb 1,500 steps, which is the same number first responders took on that terrible day.

“If you haven’t been yet, once the sideline gets full of people and you stop and see the entire sideline full of people, it’s really moving. Just that everyone will take time out of their busy schedules to remember the sacrifices that everyone made and those who passed away,” said organizer Ryan Love.

A memorial will be held Friday morning at the fallen firefighter and police memorial in Phoenix Park. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and will include a wreath-laying, a ringing of bells and a flag lowering.
