The Wayne County Fiscal Court met Thursday evening, September 10, at the courthouse, taking up a full agenda of financial presentations and departmental updates.
Treasurer Dawn Harmon presented several county financial items, including the second reading of Amendment 2 for FY27, the presentation of county tax rates, intra‑fund and inter‑fund transfers, and the county’s monthly claims.
The Court voted to create a position in the county road department that would serve as a project manager among other duties.
A wide range of departments submitted their monthly reports for review:
- Detention Center: Reported a population of 187 inmates and detailed billing and receipts for July and August. Personnel changes were noted for Savanna Neeley and Lindsey Goad.
- Solid Waste: Reported 12 household pickup locations for August and 180 bags of trash collected by the recycling crew. Recycling sales totaled $6,283.10.
- ABC Administrator: Reported $3,057.85 in revenue for August and two compliance checks.
- EMS: Responded to 301 calls in August, billed $316,521.05, and received $133,232.41. The department is awaiting word on an $80,000 AFG grant request for equipment.
- Animal Control: Processed 77 animals in August, including 24 adoptions, 17 rescues, 17 euthanizations, and 11 deaths. The shelter ended the month with 63 animals.
Reports were also submitted from the Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office, 911 Mapping, Parks & Recreation, and the Treasurer.
Magistrates provided district road work updates to the road foreman, and committee meetings for Building & Grounds and Personnel were noted.
