Monticello man has been arrested for trafficking in a controlled substance

On September 7, 2026, at approximately 11 PM, Deputy Nick Bertram with the assistance of Monticello Police Officer Valis Smedley went to a residence located at 218 Elm Street to serve an active Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest on a Homer Hunley with the warrant being associated with drug trafficking. When the front door was open to the residence Deputy Bertram noticed Hunley sitting on a couch and then observed Hunley throwing items behind the couch. Deputy Bertram then took physical control of Hunley placing him under arrest for the active arrest warrant. Deputy Bertram then retrieved the items Hunley attempted to conceal. These items were a plastic baggie containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine with an approximately weight of 7.4 grams and a set of digital scales.

Deputy Bertram charged and arrested Homer Hunley of Monticello, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than 2 grams of methamphetamine) and tampering with physical evidence. Hunley was also served / arrested on the Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to appear for Arraignment on the underlying charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than 2 grams of methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and persistent felony offender-1st degree.

Hunley was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing.
