(WBKO) – The Central City Fire Department responded to a residential house explosion in the 400 block of North 5th Street in Central City. The department cited “numerous exposures.”
One adult male was found with severe burns and and significant injuries. He has has since been airlifted to a regional trauma center.
Crews contained the fire and as of 7:30 a.m. this morning, the Central City Fire Department confirmed to WBKO that the fire has been put out but officials are still at the scene. The Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office is also currently on the scene. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are also expected to join the scene.
Central City FD has confirmed that an additional four other residences have been damaged from the explosion. They stated that occupants have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
A large area has been taped off for scene securement and CCFD is asking hat public to completely avoid the area as the investigation process is still very active.
Central City, Greenville, Drakesboro, Bremen, OHMCH EMS, CCPD, MCSO, MC Emergency Management, Kentucky Fire Marshall’s Office, CC Street, KU and ATMOS have responded to and are currently working this incident.
