(WKYT) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting at a Letcher County laundromat that left a woman critically injured and the suspected gunman dead Saturday afternoon.
Troopers at KSP Post 13 in Hazard said they received a 911 call about 4:39 p.m. reporting a shooting at a laundromat on Jenkins Road in the Whitesburg community.
Trooper say police found a 54-year-old Whitesburg woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was flown to Pikeville Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.
Investigators said the suspected shooter, Richard Wyatt Sr., 62, of Whitesburg, left the scene with his adult son and went to another residence on Jenkins Road. There, Wyatt sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and died at the scene, police said. The bullet also struck his 33-year-old son, who drove to a local hospital and was later transferred to Pikeville Medical Center, where he was reported in stable condition.
Wyatt was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County coroner.
Kentucky State Police says the investigation is ongoing.
