(WBKO/WKYT) – The Glasgow Police Department has issued a scam alert regarding scammers impersonating jailers.
The department said they have received numerous complaints about scammers calling residents, saying they have a friend or family member incarcerated and need gift cards or money wired for their release.
The Glasgow Police Department has also advised the community that the scammers are spoofing the jail’s number to add legitimacy. The number calling may appear as the correct phone number but still be a scam.
The jail has reminded locals that they will never ask for financial payments over the phone and that they should never give out any sensitive information via the phone.
