Gov. Beshear asks Trump to temporarily suspend or cut federal gas tax

(WKYT) – Gov. Andy Beshear is asking President Donald Trump to cut or temporarily suspend the federal gas tax in an attempt to help Kentucky families save money at the pump.

Earlier this month, Beshear announced he extended an executive order that reduced the gas tax by 10 cents for cities and counties that requested it.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, the suspension of the tax would cut prices by another 20 cents per gallon in addition to Beshear’s 10 cent state gas cut.

Republican lawmakers have raised concerns that gas tax cuts could threaten road and bridge funding, while Beshear argued that the state’s rainy day fund can cover the gap.
