(WKYT) – Former Kentucky Wildcat golfer J.B. Holmes is headed back to the U.S. Open after punching his ticket in final qualifying on Monday.
Holmes fired a nine-under 135 at Lakes Golf and Country Club, delivering one of the top scores of the day. The performance sends the former UK standout to his 10th U.S. Open, where he will compete against the world’s best.
Holmes’ best finish at the U.S. Open is 12th in 2017 at Erin Hills.
The five-time PGA Tour winner has not played in a major championship since 2019. Holmes has been limited to just 23 events over the last four seasons and has not competed on the Tour this year.
The U.S. Open is set for later this month at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Long Island, New York.
The U.S. Open qualifiers are commonly referred to as Golf’s Longest Day. 713 golfers competed at 10 sites across North America, for 43 available spots in the field.
