(WKYT) — Kentucky’s population is projected to increase by 5.1% by 2050, with much growth expected in Central Kentucky.
The Kentucky State Data Center with the University of Louisville published a report detailing population and household projections in the state over the next 25 years.
The Bluegrass Region is expected to grow at a faster rate compared to the overall state rate, with a projected population increase by about 14%.
The number of households in the state is projected to increase faster than the population rate, with the household rate expected to grow by 7.7%. The report said these rates indicate a decline in mean household size.
Fayette County is expected to remain the second most populous county in the Commonwealth, and Jefferson County is expected to remain first.
Warren County is projected to surpass Kenton County to become Kentucky’s third most populous county, according to the Kentucky State Data Center.
Robertson, Owsley and Hickman Counties are expected to remain the least populous in 2050.
