(WKYT) – One firefighter from the Lily Fire and Rescue Department and another from the Laurel County Fire Department were injured in a building fire, according to London Mayor Randall Weddle.
The firefighters were injured while fighting the fire after a wall collapsed, according to Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo. Both firefighters were taken to the hospital and have since been released.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo said crews were called around 3:17 a.m. on Friday, May 15.
The fire took place at a garage with an apartment attached to it, and while the apartment was occupied, the person inside was able to evacuate without injuries, Acciardo said.
The fire is located off of U.S. 25 across from a Dollar General in Lily, Weddle said, and part of the building on fire reportedly partially collapsed.
The surrounding roadway is back open after being blocked.
Drivers can turn left onto Happy Hollow Road, then right onto Old State Road, and then right on State Ridge Road to get back onto U.S. 25.
Fire investigators have also been brought to the scene, Weddle said.
