Genive Koger passed away late in the evening on Friday, May 8th, at the age of 87.
Genive was one of twelve children born to Roscoe and Gertie Parmley. She married her husband Dallas and they had one son. Genive worked for many years at Belden’s in Monticello. She loved antiques and storytelling. Each Christmas, she made big batches of fried apple pies to share with her family. In summer, her home was surrounded by her favorite flowers, cannas and begonias, with a vegetable garden out back for beans, corn, tomatoes, and more. Genive was a talented artist like many in her family. She could be found with a cup of black coffee in hand any time, day or night. She was a long-time member of Parmely’s Grove church.
She is survived by her son, Samuel Koger, and his wife, Paula Koger; her granddaughter, Tara Dinan, and her great-granddaughter, Vera Grey Williamson. She also leaves behind two sisters, Vannie Hatfield and Esther Davis; brothers Andrew Parmley and Walter Parmley, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Genive will be held on Thursday, May 14th, 2026, with visitation starting at 11:00 am. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 14th, 2026, at 1:00 pm with burial in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
