According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Monticello man has been arrested after escaping from the Wayne County Detention Center.The inmate had just been he returned to the Detention Center after appearing in Wayne County District Court on a theft and fraudulent use of credit/gift card charges that he was previously arrested on. The inmate had slipped out of one side of a leg restraint and while been taken towards the inside of the Detention Center fled on foot. Wayne County 911 Dispatch Center dispatched all available units to respond for an attempt to locate the escapee at 3:01 pm today November 10, 2025. Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy James Barnett was in the area and responded to the Country Heights Subdivision which was the direction the inmate was seen running towards by Detention Center Deputy Jailers. Deputy Barnett located the escapee and took the escapee into custody without any resistance at approximately 3:05 pm.
Deputy Barnett charged and arrested Shane Cooney of Monticello, KY. for escape 2nd degree (identify facility).
Other units responding were Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy Valis Smedley, Sheriff Catron, Monticello Police Department Major Josh Asberry and Wayne County Deputy Jailers David Morvac and Bob Sherwood.
The Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested Trevor Bertram of Monticello, KY. on a Pulaski County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay as previously ordered on the underlying charge of alcohol intoxication in a public place.
Bertram was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
