According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, surveillance of a suspected drug trafficking residence near the Monticello Elementary School has resulted in a joint operation with the Wayne County Sheriff Office and the Monticello Police Department resulting in 3 arrests after both agencies has received numerous complaints about the residence.
On April 29, 2025, Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy James Barnett observed a vehicle leaving the suspected residence and conducted a vehicle traffic stop. During the traffic stop Deputy Barnett obtained enough information to secure a search warrant for the residence located at 311 College Street in the city limits of Monticello. Before obtaining the search warrant multiple units with the Monticello Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff Office secured the residence to ensure no evidence could be destroyed until the search warrant was approved and signed. Once the search warrant was obtained units with both agencies conducted the search. This search resulted in 11 plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance known to be methamphetamine, $161.00 in cash, a bag of marijuana, 2 sets of digital scales, multiple new plastic bags and drug paraphernalia items being found.
Deputy Barnett charged and arrested Jimmy L. Barnes of 311 College Street Monticello, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree, 2nd offense of greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree, less than 2 grams of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Barnes was also arrested on Kentucky Parole Board Mandatory Reentry Supervision Violation Warrant of Arrest for absconding parole supervision, failure to report to a Parole Officer as directed and for having more than one residence at one time and arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay or show cause on the underlying charge of bail jumping-2nd degree.
Deputy Barnett charged and arrested Kelly Holloway of 311 College Street Monticello, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree, greater than or equal to grams of methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jennifer Shelton of 311 College Street Monticello, KY. was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-1st degree, methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The total weight of the crystal substance was 14.86 grams.
Barnes, Holloway and Shelton were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
Deputy Barnett was assisted by Deputies Cody Neal, Jerry Meadows, Sheriff Catron, Monticello Police Department Chief Joey Hoover, Major Josh Asberry, Officers Mike Neal, Josh Smith and Casey Lang.
The investigation is continuing by both agencies.
Also on April 29, 2025, Deputy Jerry Meadows with the Wayne County Sheriff Office was asked to assist Kentucky Probation and Parole Officers Ashley Tucker and Penny Rose while they were conducting a home visit located at 33 Old Beaver Creek Loop in Wayne County. Probation Officers Tucker and Rose had located a container which contained 3 plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance known as methamphetamine, a set of digital scales and drug paraphernalia items.
Deputy Meadows took possession of those items and then charged James W. Turner of Monticello, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree-2nd or greater offense-greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. The total weight of the crystal substance was 25.47 grams.
Turner was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
