The Monticello City Council met Monday night at City Hall.
The Council heard and update on the Murl/Powersburg water project, it was noted that could begin as early as Monday (25th).
The Council heard a discussion regarding the collection of delinquent taxes. The City Clerk Treasure has spoken to an attorney regarding the matter, and it was noted that the city could collect delinquent taxes on the past 11 tax years. The city has under $70,000 in tax money owed to them. No decisions were made regarding the matter at last night’s meeting.
By a 3-2 vote the Council agreed to terminate the position of assistant Fire Chief. It was noted this was not done as a reflection of the assistant Chief but that grant money that funded the position would end at the close of the year and if the city were to come up with the funding, the budget would have to be reconfigured. This will save the city around $90,000.
