(WKYT) – Kentucky is 6-1 and tied with Georgia for first place in the Southeastern Conference after a 21-13 win over Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday night.
The buzz made its way back to Lexington on Sunday. UK Athletics announced Sunday that Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt at Kroger Field is sold out.
Kroger Field was quiet Sunday, but on campus, students said the excitement hasn’t faded.
Freshmen Joseph Swazey and Zachary Hart said the student body is still riding high, and they believe that energy will carry into Saturday.
“It was a blast. It was spectacular,” Swazey said. “I was watching in my dorm. It was crazy — the reactions. They’re going to take us as underrated, but with Will Stein, with our fan base, we have a good team.”
The last time Kentucky played at home, the Wildcats beat LSU.
“We’re running out of couches to burn at this point,” Swazey said.
UK Athletics announced the sellout Sunday. Swazey and Hart said they aren’t surprised, crediting head coach Will Stein.
“It’s looking like a very promising season,” Hart said. “People want to be there. People want to show up. People want to see Big Blue Nation take it as far as we can.”
Both freshmen credited Stein with changing the culture around the program. They said they’re appreciative of the shift, knowing upperclassmen didn’t always get the same experience.
They’ll be in the student section Saturday as Kentucky faces Vanderbilt in a sold-out Kroger Field.
As of Sunday evening, the cheapest resale ticket on Ticketmaster was going for nearly $100.
