UK Takes overtime win at South Carolina

The Kentucky Wildcats pulled off a thrilling, historic comeback on the road, defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks 35-34 in overtime.

A Slow Start and Record-Breaking Comeback

The Wildcats found themselves in an early hole, falling behind 17-0 as South Carolina controlled the first half and built a 20-10 lead by halftime. However, Kentucky staged the second-largest comeback win in program history, erasing the deficit to force extra frames.

Overtime Drama

In overtime, South Carolina struck first. Kentucky answered back with a touchdown pass to Henry Boyer. Rather than kicking an extra point to extend the game into a second overtime, head coach Will Stein and the Wildcats opted to go for the win right then and there. The bold gamble paid off when quarterback Kenny Minchey connected with Willie Rodriguez for the successful two-point conversion, sealing the 35-34 victory.

Standout Performances

  • Kenny Minchey: Orchestrated the comeback brilliantly, completing 28 of 41 passes for 272 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

  • Kenny Darby: Led the receiving corps with 96 yards and a touchdown.

With the win, Kentucky improved to 4-1 on the season, snapping a four-game losing streak against the Gamecocks and securing the program’s first overtime victory since 2015. The Wildcats now look ahead to a major showdown at Kroger Field against LSU.
