(WKYT) – The Kentucky Natural Lands Trust is using grant funding to put QR code signs along a birding trail to encourage bird documentation, according to the Kentucky Lantern.
The Kentucky Lantern reported that with a $10,000 grant from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the nonprofit will place six QR code signs along the Pine Mountain Birding Trail. The codes will direct people to the lab’s eBird app.
The eBird app is used not only to document birds, but also to create birding checklists and share data as part of a crowd-sourced effort.
The signs will be at the following locations:
- Chained Rock trailhead in Bell County
- Blanton Forest State Nature Preserve in Harlan County
- Pine Mountain Settlement School in Harlan County
- Kingdom Come State Park in Harlan County
- Little Shepherd Trail in Letcher County
- Bad Branch State Nature Preserve in Letcher County
