School Board to meet Thursday

The Wayne County Board of Education is scheduled to hold its regular monthly meeting this week on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 6:00 PM Eastern (5:00 PM Central). The session will take place at the Wayne County Board of Education Building located at 150 Cardinal Way.

A primary item on the evening’s agenda is the formal approval of the 2026-2027 Working Budget. In addition to financial planning, the board will review multiple significant infrastructure and architectural service expenditures.

  • Facility & Renovation Projects: The board will consider approving Pay Request #7 totaling $2,448,453.95 for the ongoing Walker Early Learning Center Renovation Project (BG21-328).

  • Architectural Fees: Several professional service invoices from DECO Architects, Inc. are up for approval, including fees tied to the District Facility Plan 2026 ($15,421.63), the Walker Early Learning Center renovation ($9,232.44), the Bell Elementary Office/Restroom renovation ($3,967.50), and the WCHS Gym/Football ADA Renovation ($21,369.60).

  • Grants & Partnerships: The agenda features a proposed Memorandum of Agreement between AESA (Gear Up) and the school district for the 2026–2027 school year.

  • Consent Items: The board’s consent agenda covers routine operations, including the 2026 Technology Activity Report, student and booster fees, dual credit program agreements with Murray State University, contracts for speech-language therapy, and facility use requests.
