According to Monticello Police Chief, Josh Asberry
On August 28, 2026, at approximately 1:38 a.m., a male walked onto the property of Don Franklin Auto Dealership and made several attempts to enter the locked building.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., K-9 Officer Bertram made contact with the male, later identified as Joshua Cureton.
When questioned about his presence on the property, Cureton stated he was walking back to his residence and had lost a box of Ramen Noodles.
Because apparently, even Ramen emergencies require police assistance.
Cureton was asked to leave the property. While he was leaving, K-9 Officer Bertram located the missing box of Ramen and returned it to Cureton.
At this point, you might think the story would end with everyone going home and enjoying their noodles.
It didn’t.
Cureton appeared to be leaving the property but instead returned to Don Franklin Auto Dealership and remained on the premises until employees arrived and ran him off.
Don Franklin employees subsequently observed two trucks that appeared to have been damaged.
Major Smith applied for and was issued an arrest warrant for Cureton.
On September 2, 2026, Cureton was placed under arrest and served with the warrant by K-9 Officer Bertram and Officer Thomas. Cureton was transported to and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center without further incident.
Cureton was charged with:
• Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
• Criminal Trespassing 3rd Degree
• Attempted Theft by Unlawful Taking — Automobile
• Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree
