Kentucky State Police Bolster Water Rescue Capabilities with New, State-of-the-Art Patrol Boat

Governor Andy Beshear announced that Kentucky State Police have added a new patrol boat to strengthen water‑rescue operations statewide. The 23‑foot Metal Shark 23 Relentless was purchased with FEMA Port Security grant funding and is equipped with thermal and sonar cameras, radios, and other law‑enforcement tools. KSP says the vessel will support search‑and‑rescue, disaster response, and safety missions on Kentucky’s rivers and lakes. Troopers in the Special Response Team have completed training to operate the boat and coordinate with aircraft during emergencies.
