(WAVE/WKYt) – A Shively police officer is facing multiple charges after authorities said he misused flock camera database systems to track a woman’s movements over a five-month period.
Asad Zahir, 40, faces five counts of first-degree official misconduct and five counts of fourth-degree unlawful access to a computer.
According to an arrest citation filed by the Shively Police Department, investigators allege Zahir abused his access to the Flock safety system — a network of license plate-reading cameras — between Jan. 1 and May 2.
Zahir is accused of conducting more than 2,048 searches within the database, specifically targeting two Kentucky vehicle registrations belonging to the mother of his child.
Police said Zahir used the system continuously to monitor the woman’s movements across both Kentucky and Indiana.
During this timeframe, Zahir also allegedly harassed the woman and made threatening comments, prompting her to obtain a temporary protective order against him in Indiana.
Court records indicate Zahir was released on personal recognizance shortly after his arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Jefferson District Court on Aug. 28.
