(WKYT) – The woman accused of hitting an elementary school student at a bus stop in Scott County is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Ashley Parsons, 39, is charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, first-degree assault, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance.
Parsons is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. in Scott County District Court.
According to an arrest citation, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Bunker Hill Drive on Mt. Vernon Drive on Aug. 20 for a reported injury collision involving a child. Officers were told the involved vehicle had fled the scene.
When officers arrived on scene, the arrest citation says they learned the vehicle had failed to stop at the school bus stop sign, striking a 10-year-old girl who was crossing the street to get on the bus.
Witnesses on scene told officers that the child was struck “so violently” that it knocked her shoes off and that she was thrown from the front of the bus and landed near the rear tires, according to the arrest citation.
The arrest citation says officers later learned there was a possibly suicidal woman driving around in a vehicle similar to the one involved in the incident. The vehicle was located on Dorchester Drive.
Parsons was inside the residence, and the arrest citation alleges she admitted to an officer that she had driven while intoxicated, and to being in the area at the time of the collision. She reportedly did not recall what she was doing.
The vehicle on Dorchester Drive had visibly new damage to the front of the car, according to the arrest citation, and Parsons’ father, who is the registered owner of the vehicle, confirmed the damage was new.
During an interview at the Georgetown Police Department, Parsons said she remembered seeing the stopped school bus, but did not remember seeing a stop sign or striking a child, according to the arrest citation.
