(WKYT) – The superintendent for Lincoln County Schools announced his retirement effective January 1, 2027.
In a news release, Superintendent Bruce Smith said the decision “has not been easy,” and that he is filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve his community.
Smith thanked parents, business partners, civic leaders and community members for believing in the district and investing in the success of children. He also thanked the Board of Education for their confidence, guidance and support throughout his tenure.
“While there is always more work to be done,” Smith said, “I leave knowing that this district is well-positioned for continued success because of the remarkable people who serve it every day.”
Although he is retiring, Smith said he will always remain one of the district’s strongest supporters, and that he is committed to working closely with the Board and district leadership to ensure a smooth, successful transition.
“I leave with hope, confidence, and excitement for the future,” Smith said. “I know the best days for this district are still ahead because of the incredible people who make this community so special.”
