Wayne County is now reporting four confirmed cases of cyclospora, according to updated figures released this week by state health officials and reflected in new coverage from regional outlets. The parasitic illness, which causes severe gastrointestinal symptoms, has been steadily rising across Kentucky throughout the summer.
Statewide, Kentucky has logged 274 confirmed cases, marking one of the largest cyclospora spikes the Commonwealth has seen in recent years. While most of the activity remains concentrated in larger counties such as Jefferson, Fayette, and Madison, the illness has now reached the Lake Cumberland region.
Here at home, Wayne County’s four cases represent the first confirmed local infections since the outbreak began. Nearby counties remain largely unaffected: Pulaski County has five confirmed cases, while McCreary, Clinton, and Russell counties have not reported any cases to date.
