(WKYT) – Rocky Adkins, the former senior advisor to Gov. Andy Beshear and Kentucky House Democratic leader, announced his campaign for Kentucky governor.
According to a news release, Adkins’ campaign will focus on lowering costs, strengthening public schools and health care, protecting workers and organized labor and “creating opportunity in every community.”
Originally from Elliot County, Adkins graduated from Morehead State University before being elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives at 26 years old.
Adkins served as the Democratic leader in the House and became Beshear’s senior advisor in 2019. He recently left Beshear’s administration, with his last day being July 10.
“Life is too hard for too many Kentuckians, and it does not have to be that way,” Adkins said in a news release. “People are working hard and doing their part. They deserve a government that does its part, too. For the past six years, we have worked to build a government that serves the people. I am running to make sure that work continues.”
