According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a complaint about an intoxicated person inside a Dollar General Store has resulted in 2 Monticello men being arrested.
On May 12,2026, at approximately 7:10 pm, Wayne County 911 Dispatch Center received a call about an intoxicated male stumbling around inside the Dollar General Store located on East Kentucky Highway 92. The Dispatch Center also received a second call about the male that was then getting inside a passenger car under the driver’s seat and was leaving. As Deputy Nick Bertram was pulling into the parking lot he observed this vehicle pulling out onto the highway in the wrong lane of travel. The vehicle continued in this lane for several seconds before crossing over into the correct lane. Once catching up to the vehicle Deputy Bertram activated his emergency equipment with the vehicle failing to stop. The vehicle then turned onto Kentucky Highway 1258 and continued on for over 1 ½ miles before coming to a stop. Once making contact with the driver Deputy Bertram detected an odor of an alcohol beverage coming from him and with a passenger being passed out. Several empty beer bottles were also noticeable. Deputy Bertram attempted to administer field sobriety test to the driver while Deputies Valis Smedley and Casy Lang conducted a sternum rub in order to awake the passenger. The driver was unsteady on his feet and was not capable of submitted to some of the test being given by Deputy Bertram. Deputy Bertram then charged and arrested Scott A. Phillips of Monticello, KY. for reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, possession of an open alcohol beverage container in a motor vehicle, and fleeing or evading police-3rd degree. Phillips was taken to the Wayne County Detention Center where he was administered a test of his breath for an alcohol concentration level and was then lodged there.
Once the passenger was awaking by the Deputies Smedley and Lang he starting throwing trash from inside the vehicle out onto the roadway. Deputy Smedley then charged and arrested Michael D. Morris of Monticello, KY. for alcohol intoxication in a public place and criminal littering. Morris was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
The Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested Alexandria J. Stonewall of Monticello, KY. on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to appear for a Child Support Hearing.
Stonewall was released from custody after posting bond
