Wayne County Varsity Cardinals were triumphant over Danville 5 – 1 on Thursday.
Danville opened the scoring in the first after Dillon Cruver scored after tagging up.
Wayne County took the lead, 3-1, at the top of the fourth thanks to singles by Dylan Turner and Dawson Pyles.
Riley Jones earned the win for the Cards. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and one run over seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Nathan Doyle took the loss for Danville. The hurler went one and one-third innings, giving up two runs on one hit, striking out two, and walking one. Noah Cross stepped on the bump first for Danville. The starter allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking two.
The Cards accumulated 11 hits in the game. Pyles led the Bat Cards with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 2 for 4 on the day.
Cooper Stockton, Gage Gregory, Turner, and Pyles each collected two hits for the Cards. Wayne County was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Connor Hinkle had the most chances in the field with nine.
