WC School Board Recap

The Wayne County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 19.  During the meeting, the board voted to amend the 2026-2027 school calendar to designate February 12, February 15, and March 12 as possible weather-related makeup days.  The board also voted to reject all bids received for the softball renovation project and readvertise.

In other business, the board:

  • Heard a report from Mrs. Virginia Cares, principal of Monticello Elementary, on school improvement initiatives at MES.
  • Recognized JAG students, Lillian Bell, Braylee Dennis, and Mattie Goley for placing 3rd in business plan at state competition, and Emma Branscum for placing third at state in employability skills. All four qualified to compete at nationals.
  • Accepted a bid for the campus barn as surplus property.
  • Approved the Wayne County Schools Food Service Program to participate in the following: Summer Food Service Program 2026, National School Lunch Program 2026-2027, School Breakfast Program 2026-2027, Child & Adult Care Program 2026-2027, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program 2026-2027.
