Monticello Police Chief, Joey Hoover reports on Sunday (Oct 19) at 12:03 a.m. Monticello Police Officers Jeramy Thompson and Jacob Thomas responded to an alarm at the Monticello Smoke & Vape Shop on the KY 90 bypass, discovering the business had been burglarized upon arrival.Upon further review of the store’s security video by Major Josh Asberry at approximately 9:00 a.m. two individuals were identified.
At approximately 12:07 p.m., Santana Mahler, 25, and Shane Cooney, 36, were arrested on Virginia Avenue by Major Asberry and WCSO Deputy Valis Smedley.
Cooney was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree and Theft by Unlawful Taking.
Mahler was charged with Complicity to Commit Burglary, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree and Theft by Unlawful Taking.
Numerous items stolen from the store were recovered in a bedroom closet at 637 Virginia Avenue.
Cooney and Mahler were processed and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
