The Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Mr. Jimmy “Stud” Sexton has been selected as the Grand Marshal of this year’s Christmas Parade.Jimmy’s story is one of determination, resilience, and strength. He has farmed his entire life and founded Sexton Farms in 1966. Over the years, he and his late brother, Ronnie Sexton, farmed upwards of 2,700 acres of grain, while also raising large crops of tobacco, fruits, and vegetables. Together, they earned multiple local awards and went on to win statewide recognition—taking first place in corn and soybeans multiple times in the 90s. His contributions to our community’s farming heritage are deeply valued.
After illness resulted in the loss of his legs, Jimmy set a bold goal: to master the use of his prosthetics so he could continue farming. During his rehabilitation, he insisted on staying until he was able to climb into his tractor again. His persistence and positive spirit left a lasting impression on the staff at Cardinal Hill, who admired his grit and unwavering work ethic.
Jimmy’s family describes him as “Superman”—determined, stubborn, and independent, qualities he has never allowed life’s challenges to diminish. Today, he continues to farm just shy of 300 acres with his nephew, Ronald Sexton, drives his own vehicle, and devotes time to visiting neighbors and friends throughout the community. One of his greatest joys is watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with them, a role he treasures just as deeply as his work on the farm.

“Jimmy is the textbook definition of toughness and strength. After illness took both of his legs, he never gave up—he committed countless hours to therapy to master the use of his prosthetics, with one goal in mind: getting back into his tractor to work. Jimmy Sexton remains an inspiration not only to our community, but to others across the state as well.”
The Chamber is honored to recognize Mr. Jimmy Sexton as this year’s Grand Marshal—a title that reflects both his perseverance and the profound respect he has earned throughout Wayne County.
